Dragon Ball Z fans have no shortage of collectibles to choose from, but few villains are as iconic—or as fun—as Majin Buu. From his childlike innocence to his terrifying power, Buu is a character that demands a figure worthy of his complexity. Enter the Banpresto Dragon Ball Z G×materia THE Majin Buu, a Bandai Spirits creation that aims to capture the pink menace in all his glory.

In this review, we'll take a close look at the G×materia line's take on Majin Buu, examining the sculpt, paint application, pose, and overall value. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting your Dragon Ball shelf, this review will help you decide if this figure deserves a spot in your collection.

Overview of the G×materia Line

The G×materia series from Banpresto is known for its dynamic poses and high-quality detailing, often focusing on characters mid-action or in striking stances. This line aims to capture the essence of each character through meticulous sculpting and vibrant colors, making it a favorite among collectors who appreciate both artistry and fidelity to the source material.

For Majin Buu, the G×materia treatment means a figure that's both playful and menacing. The design draws from Buu's appearance during the Majin Buu Saga, featuring his signature pink skin, white pants, and the various accessories that make him instantly recognizable. The figure stands at approximately 17 cm tall, making it a substantial presence on any shelf.

• Part of the G×materia line by Banpresto, a Bandai Spirits brand
• Approximately 17 cm in height, perfect for display
• Dynamic pose inspired by Majin Buu's iconic moments

Sculpt and Detailing

One of the standout features of this figure is the sculpt. Majin Buu's body is rendered with careful attention to muscle definition, especially in his torso and arms, giving him a solid, powerful look. The face captures his childlike yet sinister expression, with eyes that seem to hold a hint of mischief. The antenna on his head and the holes in his body are accurately reproduced, adding to the authenticity.

The detailing extends to his clothing and accessories. His white pants feature realistic folds and wrinkles, and the belt and pouch are intricately designed. The figure also includes a removable antenna and a small Majin Buu-shaped accessory—possibly a reference to his ability to create chocolate—which adds an extra layer of playability and display options.

• High-quality sculpt with detailed muscle definition
• Accurate facial expression and iconic features
• Removable antenna and bonus accessory for display variety

Paint Application and Color Accuracy

Paint application is where many figures can falter, but the G×materia Majin Buu does not disappoint. The pink skin is applied evenly with a slight gloss that catches the light, giving Buu a healthy, almost rubbery look that matches his anime appearance. The darker pink spots on his body are cleanly painted, and the white of his pants is crisp with no bleeding.

The eyes are particularly well done, with sharp lines and a clear contrast between the black and white. The red and white accents on his belt and pouch are also neatly applied. While there are a few minor spots where the paint could be thicker—such as the edges of his antenna—these are barely noticeable and do not detract from the overall quality.

• Even, glossy pink skin tone that looks great under display lighting
• Clean application with minimal overspray or bleeding
• Minor paint thin spots on edges, but not distracting

Pose and Displayability

The pose of this figure is one of its strongest selling points. Majin Buu is captured in a dynamic, ready-to-fight stance, with one arm raised and the other extended forward, as if about to unleash a Ki blast. The base is simple but effective, providing stability without taking away from the figure itself. The pose is versatile enough to fit into any Dragon Ball collection, whether displayed alongside other G×materia figures or with other lines.

When placed next to other figures, such as the Banpresto Dragon Ball Z - MATCH MAKERS - Son Goku Figure Bandai Spirits, the G×materia Majin Buu holds its own in terms of presence and detail. The dynamic pose also makes it a great centerpiece for a display shelf, capturing the energy of the series.

• Dynamic, action-oriented pose that stands out
• Stable base for easy display
• Pairs well with other Dragon Ball Z figures

Value for Collectors

For collectors, the value of a figure often comes down to price, quality, and rarity. The Banpresto G×materia Majin Buu is reasonably priced for its size and detail, especially when compared to other figures in the same range. As a prize figure, it offers excellent value for money, making it accessible to both new and veteran collectors.
